REGISTERING TO VOTE
Newcomers to the Waxahachie area may register to vote by filling out a registration form and either sending it in or dropping it off at the Ellis County Elections Administration Office, located at 217 South Rogers Street. In order to be eligible to vote in Ellis County, an individual must reside in the county, be at least 18 years of age, must not be convicted of a felony, as well as being registered to vote in this county.
Voter registrations forms are available at the Rogers Street office or any city hall, library, voter registration office, tax office or sub tax office in Ellis County.
A voter registration application form can also be printed from the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.state.tx.us. You can register to vote when renewing your driver’s license or at most other state funded offices.
.The registration forms ask each applicant to provide his or her name, gender, place and date of birth, current residence and mailing address, as well as their citizenship status, and
either their driver’s license number OR the last four digits of their social security number .
In addition, a signature is required on each registration form but the application process may be performed by an agent acting on the behalf of someone else. Such an agent must either be registered to vote or have submitted a registration form to the county on their own behalf before they can act as an agent for whom they are registering.
Individuals who have never registered to vote in the county must register at least 30 days prior to the election in which they want to vote in. Provided the forms are properly completed, applicants should receive their voter cards in the mail about one week after they have submitted their forms. Voters should check carefully to make sure information listed on the card is accurate and up-to-date.
