The county seat of Ellis County, Waxahachie is situated in the very heart of Texas- 25 minutes south of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex.  Waxahachie is located on I-35E, an integral portion of the north/south corridor of the Mexico-to-Canada freight route initiated by the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1992. 

U.S. Highway 287 runs through the center of Waxahachie and connects our neighboring cities-Midlothian, Mansfield, and Fort Worth to the west; Ennis and Corsicana to the east.  U.S. Highway 287 also intersects with I-45 (which runs from Oklahoma to the Texas Gulf Coast), and then accesses neighboring Navarro County to the south and onward to the Texas Coast.  U.S. Highway 360 runs south from Dallas/Fort Worth Airport to U.S. Highway 287.

With these major artery advantages, the Waxahachie area continues to gain momentum for commercial, business, tourist, commuter and shopping interestes.

Numerous freight carriers provide parcel, freight, and delivery service, and rail service through Waxahcahie is provided by Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific Railroads.

Mid-Way Regional Airport, on U.S. Highway 287, provides air transport for Waxahachie, which is also within a short drive of Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (45 miles) and Dallas Love Field Airport (35 miles).

Originally a community of cattle ranchers and farmers, Waxahachie has sustained a steady, vibrant growth in population from approximately 1,000 in 1880 to over 24,000 in 2004.

The Waxahachie Independent School District educates children from pre-kindergarten to high school, and includes nine educational campuses with approximately 6,000 students.  Numerous options for families looking for a private or parochial education alternative or for supplemental tutoring are also available. 

 

Higher education facilities include Navarro College Waxahachie Campus which offers a wide range of college level courses for students seeking associate degrees in various fields of study and Southwestern Assemblies of God University which is a four-year institution that allows students to learn about Bible and church studies, as well as providing professional studies.  University of North Texas System Center at Dallas, a campus in nearby DeSoto offers junior, senior, and graduate-level courses leading to bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in a variety of programs.

Hot summers and cool winters make Waxahachie, Texas a great place to visit any time of year.  The average year round temperature of Waxahachie is 66 degrees.  Known for its extreme hot temperatures during the summer, Waxahachie receives an average of 36 inches of rainfall a year.
